*The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) enacted the Bloodborne pathogens standard 29 CFR Part 1910.1030 on December 6, 1991. The effective date for compliance was March 6, 1992. The law requires employers, who in the the course of their job may become exposed to blood or other body fluids to provide training to those employees on Bloodborne pathogen safety. The purpose of this new law is to protect employees from exposure to infectious diseases such as HIV (AIDS), hepatitis, and tuberculosis. Training must be provided at the time of initial assignment and annually thereafter. Fines for non-compliance may range from $7,000.00 to $70,000.00.
